As someone born and raised in Atlanta, and having pursued a degree in fashion, I can confidently say that FACEs was something we needed over a decade ago. For my generation of fashion designers, an event like this would have provided the exposure, connections, and inspiration essential to thriving in the industry. FACEs is not just a celebration of fashion; it’s a platform that Atlanta’s fashion community has been waiting for—a showcase of local talent and a springboard for the future of fashion in our city.

The event, a precursor to Fulton County’s FACE 2024 Experience, celebrated the region’s deep-rooted influence on fashion, art, and culture. From 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., attendees were treated to a world-class reception, stunning visual performances, and a spectacular runway show featuring designers from both local and national platforms.

As I arrived at the event, I had the pleasure of interviewing an array of influential figures, including Grammy Award-winning artist CeeLo Green with my business partner Jasmine Hawkins, master designer Miguel Wilson, and rising star fashion designer Chancey Wilson interviewed by Jasmine Hawkins. Their insights and stories brought to life the vision behind the event and underscored the symbiotic relationship between art, culture, and fashion in Fulton County.

CeeLo Green, whose contributions to both music and entertainment have left an indelible mark on Atlanta's creative landscape, shared his thoughts on how events like these fuel the local arts scene. "Atlanta has always been a creative hub," he said. "The synergy here between fashion, music, and art is electric. It’s what makes this city so vibrant."

On the fashion front, Miguel Wilson, known for his upscale menswear collection, added, "Fashion is an art form that tells stories without words. Being part of the FACEs of Fashion event is about more than just showing clothes. It’s about celebrating the creative spirit of this community." His elegant collection, showcased on the runway, was met with roaring applause.

The night’s fashion line-up was equally spectacular, featuring designs from Avnah Collection, Afreen Khundmir, Threads by Tre, Kailynn Washington, Olivia Reuter, and Aakofii. Each designer brought their unique vision to the runway, demonstrating Atlanta’s diverse and innovative fashion landscape. The event's theme, "A Celestial Experience," was reflected in the ethereal designs and captivating visual elements, transporting the audience to a world where fashion truly meets art.

Robb Pitts, Chairman of the Fulton County Board of Commissioners, spoke eloquently about the importance of supporting the arts. "Fulton County understands the importance of not only supporting the arts but recognizing its economic impact on our community,” Pitts said. “Through FACE and the work of Arts & Culture, residents will connect with fashion industry experts who can demonstrate first-hand the benefits of fashion, art, and education."

A portion of the proceeds from the event will go toward funding educational and arts programs for students in Fulton County, ensuring that the next generation of artists and fashion designers can continue to thrive.

“We are not just creating events, we are fostering the future of fashion and the arts in Atlanta."

With this year's production helmed by Michelle Lynch of Posh Productions and the iconic Dwight Eubanks, the FACEs of Fashion event was a shining example of Atlanta’s undeniable influence on the national fashion and arts scene. As the evening came to a close, it was clear that Fulton County had cemented its place as a vital force in fashion, culture, and art.

The FACEs of Fashion: “A Celestial Experience” is only the beginning of what is sure to be an unforgettable series of cultural art events. As part of the FACE 2024 Experience, Fulton County will continue to host fashion-forward showcases from September 24 to October 20. Partnering with esteemed institutions such as the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau, Clark Atlanta University (CAU), and Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), Fulton County is poised to leave an indelible mark on the fashion industry.

Before concluding this article, it’s essential to recognize one of the standout sponsors of the evening: The Wimberly Collection Spirits, who elevated the entire experience at the Sheen Awards with their premium line of spirits. Upon entering the venue, guests were greeted by one of the owners of this distinguished brand, offering an intimate introduction to their celebrated collection. With a rich history steeped in legacy, each bottle from the Wimberly Collection tells a unique story, adding a distinct flavor to the event.

Their spirits—rooted in heritage, character, and excellence—were the perfect complement to an evening dedicated to celebrating Black excellence, creativity, and culture. The Wimberly Collection’s involvement in the FACEs event added another layer of sophistication and legacy to a night already brimming with talent and inspiration.

As we wrapped up the night, it was clear that the FACEs are not just about recognizing future fashion icons and fashion designers but also celebrating the past and the legacies that paved the way for today’s success stories. The Wimberly Collection was a fitting tribute to that legacy, bringing the spirit of Ma Fannie and Papa Joe to life.

I witness to this celestial gathering, I can confidently say that Atlanta is rising—on wings of art, fashion, and culture, led by the brilliance of those who breathe life into the industry.
